TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE :02

Teaching practice phase 02

WEEK 1

         WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY

             (08-10-2025 TO 10-10-2025)

Introduction – Second Phase of Teaching Practice

The second phase of our teaching practice was scheduled at St. Goretti Higher Secondary School, Punalur. Under the guidance of Dr. G. Roy, Principal of Sabarigiri College of Education, Anchal, a group of eight student teachers was assigned to this institution.

From the Natural Science Department, I, Nuju Fathima M, along with Muhsina Sulaiman, were selected. The English Department was represented by Stephy, Haseena Suja, and Bishnuja, while Jerin from the Physical Science Department and Shinu from the Mathematics Department also joined the group.

Before the commencement of the practice, our department head, Sreedevi Miss, provided us with essential instructions and guidance. She advised us to complete our teaching manuals, prepare model-based lesson plans, and design innovative teaching aids suitable for classroom use. Her valuable directions motivated us to approach the second phase with renewed confidence and dedication.

The class assigned to me by the Biology teacher, Sister Neethu, was Class 9A. There was a slight change in my timetable schedule — my concerned class was allotted during the 7th hour on Mondays and the 4th hour on Wednesdays.

During the general reflection session held before the beginning of the second phase, our teachers, especially Sreedevi Miss, gave us detailed instructions and encouragement to perform effectively during this period. With all preparations completed, I looked forward to the new phase with enthusiasm, commitment, and a desire to improve my teaching skills.

01 DAY : WEDNESDAY:08/10/25

Today marked the first day of the second phase of our teaching practice. I felt very curious and motivated myself to put in extra effort to improve my teaching skills. However, as per the directions of the A.E.O., we were selected as volunteers at G.H.S. Yeroor to assist in the smooth functioning of the Science Exhibition.

We reached the school by 8:30 a.m., and, following instructions, were assigned various responsibilities to help the participants. Students from different schools had come to showcase their talents. My first volunteering assignment was in the album-making section. Here, we guided the students regarding their album work. Two students from each school were selected for the competition, and the topic had been provided in advance. We assisted them in cutting the charts and organizing materials accurately. At 10:00 a.m., the program officially began. We signed the attendance sheet and provided students three hours to complete their albums.

Afterward, I moved to the exhibition area featuring ancient coins, old instruments, historical properties, and monuments. Various coins from different countries, including India, Europe, China, France, and Russia, were creatively displayed in arrangements like houses and trees. Some charts and posters were also made to describe the exhibits. Invigilators evaluated the students’ work and awarded marks, and we helped the students safely return their exhibits to their teachers and parents.

During lunch break, food was provided by the school. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal, especially the payasam served as a special treat.

After lunch, I assisted in the drawing competition section, where I took attendance and helped manage the remaining participants. Once all activities concluded, we attended a meeting with the A.E.O., where several important instructions and feedback about the programs were shared.

Finally, we returned home safely, feeling satisfied with the day’s productive and enjoyable experience. The volunteering opportunity not only allowed us to observe student creativity and talent but also gave valuable insights into event management and coordination in a school setting.

02 DAY : THURSDAY:09/10/25

Today, I reached the school at 9:00 a.m. and went to the principal’s room to sign the attendance register. Soon after, a school assembly was conducted by the students of Class 9D. The assembly was well-organized, and the students performed confidently, setting a positive tone for the day.

After the assembly, I received a substitution period in Class 5B, where I conducted some interesting brain teaser activities. The students participated enthusiastically and enjoyed solving the puzzles. The class atmosphere was lively, filled with laughter and excitement. It turned out to be an engaging and enjoyable session for both the students and me.

Later, I got another substitution in Class 6B, where I organized a few interactive activities to keep the students active and involved. The students showed great interest and responded eagerly throughout the period.

During the lunch break, I went to the refectory and helped serve food to the students. It was a joyful experience to interact with them informally and assist in their lunchtime routine.

In the afternoon session, I got a substitution in Class 8G during the Health period. Along with the students, I went to the school ground, where I observed their outdoor activities. The students actively participated in various games — the boys played football, while the girls enjoyed Hide and Seek and Ice and Water. These games helped the students stay physically active and promoted teamwork and good health.

At 3:45 p.m., after the national anthem and prayer, the school dispersed. After ensuring that all the students had safely left for home, we signed the attendance register and concluded the day’s duties.

Overall, it was a pleasant and interactive day that combined academic engagement, fun activities, and healthy physical recreation for the students.

03 DAY : FRIDAY:10/10/25

I reached the school at 9:50 a.m. and went straight to the principal’s room to sign the attendance register. The day began with the school assembly, which was conducted by the students of Class 9E. The assembly was well-organized, and the students presented their program confidently.

After the assembly, an Inter-School Role Play Competition was held in the school auditorium. The performances by students from various schools were creative and thought-provoking. We really enjoyed watching the role plays and observing the judgment process, which was fair and encouraging to all participants.

Following the competition, I received a substitution period in Class 5C. The period was an Art class, so I engaged the students in drawing and simple craft activities. They participated enthusiastically and enjoyed expressing their creativity through their artwork.

Meanwhile, an NSS examination was being conducted in the hall for the 10th standard NSS students. I also received a substitution period in my concerned class, 9A, but since the classroom was occupied for the NSS exam, I could not proceed with my planned lesson. As per the instructions of the Deputy Headmistress, we accompanied the students to the school ground, where they played various games. The students thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor activities, and it provided them with a refreshing break from their academic routine.

During the lunch break, I went to the refectory and helped serve food to the students. The day’s menu included rice, kadala curry, chammandhi, and moru. The students enjoyed the meal, and it was a pleasant experience to assist them during lunchtime.

In the afternoon session, I got a substitution in Class 8G. During that period, I distributed Physics notes to the students, as instructed by the Physics teacher who was on sports duty.

A major event of the day was the Punalur Sub-District Athletics Championship 2025–2026, which was held on the school ground. Several participants from different schools took part in various track and field events. It was a proud moment when Fina. B.Gabriel, a student from my concerned class 9 A, won first prize in long jump and running.

Overall, the day was vibrant and eventful, filled with a variety of academic, cultural, and athletic experiences. It gave me an opportunity to observe student participation beyond the classroom and to appreciate the holistic development that school activities promote.

CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

During this week, although I did not get an opportunity to teach any specific topic from the curriculum, I was assigned substitution classes To make the session meaningful and engaging, I conducted some fun and interactive activities The students responded enthusiastically and enjoyed the session. In addition to this, I completed my reflective journal and updated other teaching practice records.
