SUB DISTRICT KALOLSAVAM
SUB DISTRICT KALOLSAVAM
The Kalolsavam event offers students a valuable platform to showcase their talents at various levels, from the school to the state. Over its 53-year history, the festival has grown both in scale and significance, establishing itself as a symbol of student talent in Kerala.
On November 11, 2024, we, the student teachers from Sabarigiri College of Education, were invited to serve during the sub-district Kalolsavam. The event was hosted at Anchal East Higher Secondary School, and we received an official invitation from Punalur DD Jaffar Sir. Our team was led by our Principal, Dr. Roy Sir, and NSS Coordinator, Jaseena Miss. It marked the first day of the sub-district Kalolsavam.
By 8:45 AM, all 52 of us had arrived at the school. We were asked to meet Jaffar Sir, who introduced himself warmly to all of us. He welcomed us with great enthusiasm, and we took photos together. He then provided an introduction to the event, followed by an explanation of our responsibilities. Ten student teachers from our group were selected for the award committee and taken to another room by a different sir, while the remaining student teachers were directed to the committee room.
In the committee room, another sir gave us instructions about our duties. We were divided into smaller groups, each consisting of two members. Our names and phone numbers were collected, and we were assigned specific classrooms where we were to perform our duties. My group, which included Me Nuju Fathima M and Aparna, was assigned to Room No. 3.
As it was the first day of the school Kalolsavam, only writing competitions were scheduled. Aparna and I were assigned to assist with the Malayalam essay writing competition. We were asked to support the sir who was in charge of the room. He was very friendly, and despite being a bit nervous since it was our first experience, his warm demeanor helped calm us.
Many students from different schools in the Anchal sub-district had gathered to participate in the Kalolsavam. The competitions began at 10:00 AM, and the program in our room was the Malayalam essay writing competition. We distributed papers to the students, and the judges provided the topic. The students were given approximately two hours to complete their essays. Afterward, we helped the teachers collect the papers and mark them. We expressed our gratitude to the sir for creating such a welcoming atmosphere, and he, in turn, thanked us for our assistance.
When it was time for lunch, the school provided us with a packet of biryani and water. After finishing the meal, we signed our attendance and prepared to leave the school. Some of our student teachers had extended duties and stayed longer, but everyone had left the school by 6 PM.
This Kalolsavam day was a memorable experience for all of us as future teachers. It reminded us of our own school Kalolsavam days and helped us understand the various responsibilities teachers have in conducting such events. It was a beautiful and unforgettable experience, one that deepened our understanding of organizing and participating in school events.
