SCHOOL INDUCTION PROGRAMME DAY -4

FOURTH DAY

 DATE:24/10/2024

 DAY:THURSDAY

Today marked the fourth day of the school induction program. I arrived at the school at 9:15 AM. After taking attendance, the other teacher trainees and I headed to our assigned area. Following the assembly, we met with the deputy headmaster to learn about the schedule for the day.

 REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

At 9:30 am, the assembly began with a prayer. The session included the pledge, readings from the holy book, and news announcements. The Headmaster addressed the students regarding the seriousness of an Amoebic brain infection reported in Punalur and discussed the necessary precautions to prevent it, urging everyone to remain vigilant. She also introduced the teacher trainees visiting for an induction program from another training college. After the assembly, the relevant teachers provided details about the day's schedule.

During the third hour, Muhsina Sulaiman and I, both from the Natural Science option, conducted a shared class. Afterward, we had some free time, during which we explored the school grounds and took photos. At 12:45 pm, we headed to the refectory to distribute food to the students before having our lunch. In the afternoon, we had a shared class during the sixth hour, and I took on substitution duty during the seventh hour for the same class. We left for home at 3:45 pm after marking attendance.

REFLECTION ON CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITY

During the third hour (11:25 AM to 12:05 PM), Muhsina Sulaiman and I went to Standard 9 for our first shared class. The class division was H, with a total of 44 students: 23 boys and 21 girls. Today, 37 students attended. The class was under the supervision of Sister Neethu, who assigned us the topic "Human Respiratory System and Ventilation" from Unit 3, "Respiration and Excretion." Muhsina introduced the lesson, starting with a friendly conversation. She prompted the students to take a deep breath to segue into the topic, explaining the pathway of oxygen. I then detailed the concept of ventilation and the changes occurring in the thoracic cavity. We engaged the students with questions throughout the lesson, using two charts to illustrate the oxygen pathway and thoracic changes, along with the SCERT textbook for Standard 9 as a learning aid.

In the afternoon session, during the sixth hour (2:10 PM to 2:50 PM), Muhsina and I moved to Standard 8 for our second shared class. This division was A, a Malayalam medium class, with 22 students—11 boys and 11 girls. Nineteen students were present today, and Sister Neethu was the supervising teacher. We were assigned the topic "Taxonomy" from the unit on "Classification." I introduced the subject using an example and a diagram from the textbook. Muhsina then took over the content, discussing the contributions of various scientists in taxonomy and elaborating on the topic with the textbook and a chart illustrating the scientific classification of a cat.

During the fourth hour, from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM, we had a substitution in the same class after the interval. We engaged the students with various activities until the bell rang at 3:30 PM, signaling the end of the day. After the National Anthem, the students left.
